party week!

if you haven't already figured it out (and i'm sure a few of you have) andrew brophy has started a weekly game design site. Every week he comes up with a new theme which members of the site a game about, think ludum dare but longer and just for "the learning experience". This weeks theme is fighting, and as of writing only me, andrew, and QOG are making one this week. so tell a friend and go to the blog to join in on the fun. Even if you don't join, follow it! i'm sure some interesting things will come out of every week.

I myself am making a game based on arguments, if you want to know more about my project or other projects go here.

oh and in other news, i've made a small demo for duck! but it's only at braingale until i make a better one go here to play it!

really?!

today in my sixth period art class when i was working on some print making project, my teacher walked up to me and told me to look at the computer. Now because she's pretty nice she was letting a group of kids on it. But when I walked over there i saw what they were doing. PLAYING MY CRAPPY OLD GAMES! now those of you familiar with them ( aka none of you ) you would know about how bad they were. Oddly enough they loved them alot! Now the majority of the class wants copies of my games and to tell the truth i'm surprised.
Not only that but some of them want to know how to make them. Now while i can almost gurantee barely any of them with it, i'll try to keep you updated on what they make.

challenging! : two hard platformers.

you know what guys? I think I'm going to start telling you about whatever hard games I can find. You wanna know why? These are often the best games out there and are usually some of the most creative out there.

To start you guys off, i'm going to show you two platformers that show you that you don't need much to make a platformer hard and fun.

Difficulty Maximal ( Gideon Simmons )

difficulty maximal is your average platformer which gives you one thing and does it right, difficult platforming.
to beat the game you need good platforming skills and patience, because this is a trial and error game. You are not going to beat this on the first try and I can gurantee it. Anyway, on to the gameplay. The game features a slightly difficult platforming control for this style of platformer, often you will find yourself trying over and over again on a single obstacle just because you always hold the jump button too long or too short. Also the fact that this game relies on rooms that are shown seperately can make the gameplay far more difficult than it could be when you are popping in and out of rooms. But even with these few flaws, this is a great challenge for all you difficulty seekers and definately worth a quick download.
 acrobutler ( Andrew Brophy )

acrobutler is the harder and somewhat shorter of these two platformers. It was created for The Butler Did It competition over at braingale(it placed 2nd) and it involves you trying to pass series of spikes to get the girl.

Like I said before, this game is hard, so hard in fact that the first level is the hardest first level I have ever played. Basically, you use your, i don't know ninja butler?, skills to hop, run, and wall jump past several spikes in each difficult level while your endurance against the pink background is tested. Seriously though, it burns! Anyway, the levels are all pretty fun and even at the first level test your platforming skills to the max. Another thing that makes this game fun is that a couple levels even have a very easy to get through side path if you are creative enough to get to it.

Really my only problem with this game is the death explosions. Now while cool, they are the same color as everything else and can clutter difficult portions of the screen, so you often will have to wait a bit before you can see that jump you've tried time and time again to beat.

problem solved!

help peas. :(

me and my dad have both been trying to get game maker 8 pro on my laptop since it came out. sadly, that hasn't happened. why? for some reason softwrap won't accept my dad's credit card or even the two online gift cards we bought. So yeah i'm kinda screwed. Normally, i wouldn't need it because i have game maker 7 pro. but i have started duck! in gm8 and i can't switch from computer to computer like i used to.

basically what i am asking is for somebody to donate me an activation code for game maker 8 pro and send it to my email  ( bxdlunch@gmail.com ).

What?! you think i'm going to not give anything in return and be a stinky mc poop face?
not at all. here's what i'm offering ya's.
- we will hopefully be able to repay you. edit: make sure you have a way for us to pay you.
- i will put you in the credits of duck in the special thanks spot.
- you will get the final build of duck a week before anybody else does.
- link to your blog on my blog.

To everyone thinking to donate, check the comments before you buy the code because i don't want you buying a code if somebody else has (that might suck.). and to anyone donating, post a comment on this post saying you donated so people know somebody has donated already.

thanks guys! ~Daray

by the way, if any problems where more than one person donates, only the first person will get the money, but if you are the second or third you still get credits on my game and stuff.

makin' this a site baby!

Well, kinda. Over the next week or so, I am going to make a few blogs that I can set up together like a regular website. This way I can put my games in one page, my main stuff in this blog, and game reviews in another. You will still get announcements when I make new stuff, but it will be eaier to find what you want because it will be on more organized pages.

duck!

Once upon a time, there was a young duck and his name was duck. He had a girlfriend who was a platypus and they loved each other very much. But one day, (as in most relationships) she was possesed by a giant pretzel with cheese and she flew far, far away. duck was worried, so he embarked on a perilous journey through twisted and magical lands to find her. Because that's just what ducks do man. it's just what ducks do...

duck! is the result of two older projects of mine melding with some of my twisted drawings i do during spare time at school. It is essentially a puzzle platformer wherein you often go out of your way to help people so they can give you a lead on where your girlfriend is.

Pretty much every character in the game is from a doodle of mine and they all will be pretty damn weird.

This game is also going to have multiple endings which will depend on certain things you do or don't do in the game. So you might not complete the game on the first attempt.

Screenshot!

Currently I am working on the first chapter and I hope to have a demo out by late Feburary.

Keep checkin' back and I hope to make your mind asplode of weirdness.
